Youth Education & Training
Throughout the year, SSCEF and the Falmouth Rod and Gun Club sponsor events in support of our youth.
Youth Day - TBD - A day long event in which an array of adult-sponsored sporting activities are offered. Under safe and supervised conditions, this day includes opportunities to try archery, muzzle-loaders, skeet, range shooting of a 22 rifle, fly fishing, spin-casting, boating safety (taught by the U.S. Coast Guard) as well as meeting with other non-profit organizations involved with conservation, hunting (Ducks Unlimited), and fishing (Trout Unlimited).
Deep Sea Fishing - Postponed - This annual program introduces (or reintroduces) about 50 children to the wonders of deep sea fishing. Participants are educated on water safety, shown proper fishing techniques, and instilled with an appreciation of this outdoor sport. Winners of various competitions will receive recognition at SSCEF's Annual Dinner in August.
Turkey, Pheasant or Quail Hunting - A two-part program is provided each fall. The first part is an educational workshop that covers safety, target identification, and shotgun practice targeting clay pigeons at a trap range. A supervised hunt is conducted approximately 3 weeks later.
Trout Fishing - TBA - A fresh-water fishing expo is offered on the safety and techniques of trout fishing. This includes fly-tying which is taught under the supervision of knowledgeable adults.
Ice Fishing - In the Winter, a youth ice fishing program is offered. Ice safety is taught before anyone is allowed on the ice. Appropriate fishing techniques including the use of live and artificial baits are introduced.
